2024 marked another incredibly successful year for the University of Auckland’s Formula Student team, F:SAE 47, at the Australasia Formula Student Competition. In November of 2024, with high hopes and a beautifully constructed car the team headed off to Melbourne to compete against universities across Australasia to determine who had engineered the best car. The competition is split up across 8 different events, 3 static and 3 dynamic, to not only test the abilities of the car but also the business and engineering design behind the manufacturing of it.
After 5 days of racing, presenting and testing the team were very happy and eagerly awaited the results. This year the team placed 3rd in Autocross, 2nd in Business Presentation and Engineering Design and 1st in Acceleration, breaking our previous record set last year. This resulted in an incredible overall finish of 2nd place in the EV Class. While many members left Melbourne disappointed with 1st place in sight and coming so close, 2nd place overall is truly a remarkable achievement. This is the culmination of a year of teamwork, precise engineering and most importantly plenty of hard hours spent at the workshop. Everyone on the team should take pride in this achievement and the massive effort put in this year. Congratulations!
