University of Auckland Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering has in excess of 2000 students, 2200 at undergraduate level, 150 in taught postgraduate programmes and 200 research postgraduate students.
A range of specialisations are available in the Bachelor of Engineering degree. New specialisations, such as software engineering and biomedical engineering, have been introduced in recent years, in response to the changing needs of society.
Research is also a key activity at the Faculty, with large scale research activities and collaborations with other institutions and members of the industry. Much of the work undertaken is of a world-class level, while in many areas, the research programmes, and academics and students involved, are clearly leading the world in their discoveries and developments.

The Auckland University Mechanical Engineering department provides a proven and practical engineering degree programme with majors in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. The design and project intensive curriculum will provides the expertise to solve real-life and complex engineering problems and prepares for the challenges of designing and manufacturing advanced products and services for the 21st Century.
The post-graduate and research programmes are far ranging and include areas such as plastics and composite materials, fuel efficiency and combustion, STEP-NC programing and manufacturing, yacht and sail design, and more. |
PSP Engineering

PSP Engineering offers a full range of engineering, design, and CNC machining services. They have expertise in Toolmaking & Designing, Production Engineering, CNC Machining, Precision Component Manufacturing, Marine Equipment Manufacturing and overhauling and 3D Design.
In 2011 the team welcomes PSP on board as a major sponsor. PSP Engineering have machined a crankcase for the team as well as a number of other high precision powertrain components. |
X-Form

X-form is a cutting edge company providing customers with 3D digitizing, CAD design and development, and CNC machining. They are able to create an accurate 3 dimensional computer model of physical object by 3D digitizing. Once in the computer they (or the client) are able to modify, reverse engineer, or design new parts around the digitized one. They will then cut the associated tooling required on their large 5 axis computer controlled CNC machine. Typical applications include plugs for fiberglass and composite parts, vacuum forming tools, rotational tools, foundry patterns, etc. X-form has assisted the team by manufacturing the moulds for our side pods and exhaust guards. |
Altair HyperWorks

Altair Engineering is a leading global product design consulting and technology company. Founded in 1985 as a product development consulting company, Altair understands what goes into the product development process. Altair provides software technology in the areas of structural and multi-body modeling and visualisation, structural analysis and optimisation, design process automation, and manufacturing process simulation. The HyperWorks suite enables us to study the physical behaviour of complex structures and assemblies, and improve and optimise design performance. |
Rivers Carbon

Rivers Carbon designs solutions and produce light weight autoclaved pre-preg carbon products for top end motor sport, aerospace and marine customers. The autoclave and clean room are fully data logged with calibrated instruments. Data recorded includes temperature pressure and time for the autoclave, humidity and temperature for the clean room and temperature for the freezer.
Rivers Carbon supplies the team with autoclave time for all of our pre-preg composite work, as well as a lot of valuable expert advice on manufacturing techniques.

Greenmount Manufacturing

Greenmount Manufacturing is an East Tamaki based company who specialise in furniture and cabinet making. However, the recent acquisition of a 5-axis CNC router give them the ability to offer a range of other services from mold machining to complex shaping.
This year, we are utilising these abilities to manufacture molds for various composite parts of the car. Greenmount Manufacturing's generous support means that molds can be made quickly and accurately direct from the CAD model, saving huge amounts of time over hand made molds. |
Mico Metals

Mico Metals are a leading New Zealand supplier of non-ferrous metals and fasteners. They have 60 years experience and are able to offer technical support and assistance at all branches nationwide through their dedicated customer services teams. Mico were a new sponsor in 2010 and provided the team with an excellent selection of aluminium stock for the workshop to use in the manufacture of the M010 and M11. |

PPS Industries

MEG

The Mechanical Engineering Group is a Technical Group of IPENZ (The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand) and has strong links and support from I.Mech.E (The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London). The objects of the Group are to encourage social and technical liaison between engineers of all levels who have an interest in mechanical technology. The Group, which is currently active in Auckland and Wellington, holds regular meetings of technical interest, and arranges visiting speakers to talk to the Group, as well as visits to works and projects of specific mechanical engineering interest. |
