With only one year to complete a prototype, a group of 30 students have set out yet again to test their engineering skills in the development of an open wheel race car. Since 2004, competing regularly in the Formula SAE Australasia event, The University of Auckland Formula SAE Team has created a reputation for being a surprise package.
Formula SAE is an internationally renowned design competition in which teams from all over the globe compete. Since our first appearance in 2004, when the team bagged the FISITA Best Rookie Award after placing sixth overall, the team has consistently placed in the top ten. In 2011, the team achieved their best finish of 4th place overall. This year the team aims to go one step further and earn a podium finish.
With the support of the University and numerous loyal sponsors, the team strives to not only do them proud, but to cement New Zealand as a leading innovative country.

The FSAE-A 2012 competition has ended and the team is bringing back 3 trophies home - 3rd place for Business Presentation, 3rd place for Skidpad and 3rd place for Design Event. The day started with the first heat of the Endurance event, we started off 4th and sent Simon Davies out. After a few laps, our crank angle sensor failed which caused our engine to cut out, causing us to DNF.
We got the car ready for the second heat of the Endurance event and sent Malcolm Finch out. Malcolm set some incredible lap times and we certainly looked to be challenging for the win of the Endurance event. Sadly, 12 laps into the event, the car suffered a suspension failure causing us to DNF once again.

Most of the opposing teams were out in force; however a few teams were not present at the track today. Our main goal for the day was to pass the technical inspection.
